The different Industry Associations arranged for an Interacting Meeting with Smt. Rita Teaotia, IAS, The Commerce Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India on 20th August, 2016 at The Lalit Great Eastern. Mr. Pinaki Chakraborty joined the session on behalf of Neogi Technologies And Research Pvt. Ltd. The session was basically regarding the different aspects of Export/Import business in India in the present context of business. The Industry Associations put forward a lot of problems of its members as regards exports business is concerned. The problems with respect to food, steel, vegetables, tea, petrochemicals were also highlighted in the session. Most of the participating members expressed their concern about the impact of GST on the export business. The feasibility of SEZ (Special Economic Zone) in present state of business was also raised. It was told that to get entry in SEZ is far easier than to come out of it. Mr. Ardhendu Mondal, Chairman, International Trade Cell, BCCI pointed out that the MSME sectors in India contribute 45% of total export in India and hence urged for proper advocacy of MSME sector in export business. The problem of delayed payment, the different acts on the part of the Govt. also came up in the interaction. At the instruction of Smt. Teaotia, the officials from Central Govt. as well as State Govt. tried to answer most of the questions raised in the session. Finally, Smt. Teaotia concluded by saying that the Govt. can only go through persuasion in case of delayed payment, the India Govt. has to abide by some rules and compulsion because of its commitment in WTO, so the exporters are to bear with it. She assured that the problems of export with Bangladesh will be taken up in a proper forum more aggressively.
